SpaceFN – Windows Configuration

For PC SpaceFN I use TouchCursor that I mention in previous post.

It has few self explanatory options

The only one that is not obvious is Training mode which “Disables the real cursor keys to encourage you to learn to use cursor mode” as hover tool-tip says.

Using the program is trivial just press “Add…” button to show edit window

In most cases You just select text field and press key that You want to assign. But if you could not do that, eg. Escape key close window there are “…” button next to both text fields that allow to assign key from list.

There is also Programs card that allow to Disable or Enable TouchCursor only in selected programs

But I personally don’t use that feature since in all programs I want to use SpaceFN and in games I just turn off TouchCursor. Also for me it don’t really worked to disable it in games, it works great in windows applications and has really cool choosing app tool but has some problems with games.

SpaceFN – greatly improve text typing and editing

SpaceFN is keyboard layout that with most part is no different from normal layout, with one exception when you press and hold Space key it becomes function key that will reveal many keys right under your hands without moving them, eg. arrows keys.

The keys ZXCV are marked since we don’t want to assign them as we want to undo/cut/copy/paste even with space pressed mainly for convenience of not need to release space each time we want to use them.

Ctrl-/Ctrl= depend on the application. I’m using it mainly in Visual Studio/Rider, but  I assume in most apps with prev/next functions you can configure shortcuts 🙂

For me it’s almost perfect keyboard layout for everything but games. Since in many games it makes huuuge difference how long you’re pressing space.

It’s worth to mention that it’s not my idea, the other day I came across some posts about good practices of better and faster programming and there I found TouchCursor which I started using immediately. (more about TouchCursor in windows configuration post)

The idea of having arrows in characters area came from ADM-3A terminal and was later adapted by Bill Joy in vi text editor precursor of vim



Unity Prefabs Browser

For a long time I was thinking of making a tool that would allow me to edit prefabs without adding them to the scene window. I wanted something similar to Prefabs in UE4 (3:15) :

But according to the principle: “Think Big, Start Small”, for now I’ve just extend possibility to edit prefab children beyond first nesting of children.

Coloring Code in Visual Studio (Syntax Highlighting)


For me syntax highlight is one of most important programing improvements, almost as important as IntelliSense. Where IntelliSense is major for writing and syntax highlight is major for reading code.

Here is an example of what I’m talking about:

Code might be very complex and every facilitation are needed. Eg. Someone could write  priceChange(price); you see braces you could think that it is a method, even if you suspect it could be some event you could not be sure unless you could distinguish them by color.
Other example you see some variable how to recognize is it a field, property, local variable without searching into code? Yes by it’s color.

Unity Python Console

I’ve made a simple Python console for Unity. Partly for fun and partly as a basis for a future project.
You can pretty much execute any method from project, and even write your own.

Project have basic functions:
– resizable input
– resizable console with ability to choose log type
– there is also component with Update & FixedUpdate handlers

Artificial Intelligence, Bill Gates and Games

I’ve just watching one of Evan Carmichael videos, one of 10 rules series and youtube suggest me Interview with Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, and one minute of that interview really catch my attention, it was 00:09:00 (from original video) when Charlie Rose the interviewer ask Bill about his interest in AI.
Here’s just that part:

– [Charlie Rose] You have a passion for artificial intelligence, you do.

– [Bill Gates] Yeah it’s the ultimate dream, when you start working on software, is the kind of deep understanding the intelligence that humans have. So it’s been the holy grail when can the computer learn to play games, when can the computer learn to read, when can it understand speech. And things like speech and vision have mad such progress in recent years. I mean, you’ve been tracking this and exposing your viewers to some of it, because I can’t overstate that even for people in the field, it’s a pretty magical time.

– [Charlie Rose] And it’s potential is to do what? Change everything?

– [Bill Gates] Well, in the first instance, to be the best assistant ever, to look at all your information and help you know in the few minutes between meeting what you should look at, or when you’re trying to plan a trip, organize things, to be a much, much, much better assistant than it is today. And then, eventually, certain mechanical tasks like warehouse work or driving, that it would take that over. But for intellectual work, it will just magnify the creativity and make your time more valuable.

I have to say that I share his opinion about AI being holy grail with it’s potential to learn to read, speech and even play games. And for me, as someone in games industry with interest in AI, that reference about computer learn to play a game was really inspiring.

where AI (MarI/O) plays Mario, and how I would like to participate in the improvement of AI and made some cool AI learning and playing games on my own.

What is cool about both of that examples is that there are sources links in descriptions.

Also talking about AI and games I would not be able not to mention about OpenAI from Elon Musk’s that beat Dota 2 pro player. And it is a big hit because controlls and situations on the field are way more complicated than any other game I’ve seen was played by AI, also worth to mension about Google AI called DeepMind beating Go game which many says that computer could not learn to play.

Quick Start Racing Game

Randomation Vehicle Physics is one more asset on github I found accidentally. And was amazed by it’s features.


Some of them:

  • Modular vehicle system allows for many configurations.
  • Includes damage system with mesh deformation and detachable parts.
  • Gearbox and continuously variable transmissions with automatic and manual variants.
  • Handles nearly any shape of terrain and surfaces, plus moving platforms.
  • Stunt and drift detection with the generation of a string showing the current stunt combo.
  • Includes module for basic waypoint and following AI.
  • Configurable surface properties that effect tire marks and friction for mud, ice, dirt, etc.
  • Simply drop in your own vehicle models, adjust the wheels, and watch them drive.

It contains 2 configured and ready to go viehicles: Muscle car and Fancy Kart and 16 placeholders ready to swap graphics and go.

It’s not actively developed and last commit is 4 months from now but have no errors when I open project in Unity 2017.2.

Keijiro Takahashi & Seiya Ishibashi Unity assets (free)

I was just searching google for some visualization of “Github for Unity” asset.

As expected just few pictures of what I was looking for, a lot of using Unity + Git, and some blogs. But one picture caught my attention:

Well this looks really cool, but surrounded by git pictures it was so amazing I just have to check it out. And what was my surprise when I discover long list of github repositories with awesome assets for Unity! It was on reddit post.

One that I like is Sonar that in the basic is one c# script + one shader.

Most of assets are made by Keijiro Takahashi, and few by Seiya Ishibashi.

The idea was born when I was searching for some way to transport a lot of tree logs. From my research before Industrial Revolution people was using draft animals to pull some vehicles like carts.
So i looked through assetstore for suitable vehicle, and I started to feel like I was in some kind of fashion show.
